Much Ado About Nothing at the Wyndham's Theatre
David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Much Ado About Nothing at The Wyndham's Theatre, London
Tonight (Thursday 30th June 2011) I went to see David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing at The Wyndham's Theatre.
I had not seen this particular Shakepeare play before, nor had I read it and I have to say this fantastic production at the Wyndham's brought it to life for me. The sparkling professional interaction that has been evident between Catherine Tate and David Tennant in their previous collaboration in the Doctor Who series for BBC Television was again evident here - in spades!
Catherine Tate was at her best and of course, delivered her usual entertaining, funny and charismatic performance, but she certainly did not overshadow David Tennant who matched her with his stage presence. The pair delivered impeccable timing and their own highly comic delivery to make the play thouroughly enjoyable and entertaining for the audience.
The imaginatively modern setting, and sets that worked, the charisma of the cast, and the delivery of this timeless classic of English theatre by the whole cast produced a scintillating evening, and made this particular Shakespeare play very accessible and very entertaining.
Nobody will say Shakespeare is boring if they would only see a production of this calibre. I was glad I went.
