The British Museum

The British Museum in Central London is the repository of the United Kingdom national collection of world art and artefacts. Founded in 1753 by an Act of Parliament, the British Museum contains treasures from all over the world. From original and rare books and manuscripts to huge stone statues and chunks of ancient architecture, an overview of world history is presented, expounded and treasured for the nation - all for free!

My personal favourite galleries are the Ancient Roman and Greek galleries. Statues of the Emperor Hadrian, coins and implements used in Ancient Roman daily life - there are treasures that have been found in the River Thames and when excavating building foundations throughout Central London.

The British Museum is very accessible to anyone visiting London, closest tube stations are Tottenham Court Road, Holburn or Russel Square. The Museum is easily found from the eastern end of Oxford Street, look for the Centrepoint building, when you are there ask someone for directions, you will be very close to the British Museum if you are at Centrepoint.

The British Museum is open every day from 10am and entry is free. Full address of the British Museum is: British Museum, Great Russel Street, London, WC1B 3DG. The British Museum Information Desk telephone number is: +44 (0)20 7323 8299 - This number can be used for general information and enquiries about the museum.
